2st RATIONALE theranostics training school
The second COST RATIONALE Summer Theragnostic School took place in the second week of July in Kaunas, Lithuania, bringing together participants from more than ten countries for four days of intensive learning, discussion, and collaboration.
The programme combined expert-led lectures, interactive sessions, and multidisciplinary exchange, creating an environment that supported both early-career researchers and established professionals. Alongside the academic content, participants had opportunities to engage informally and build valuable international networks.
A notable highlight of the event was the visit to the newly opened Nuclear Medicine Research Centre in Kaunas. Equipped with its own cyclotron, the centre marks a significant milestone for the region and represents a major step forward for theragnostic research in Europe.
Scientific Programme
The Summer School in Kaunas provided a comprehensive overview of key themes in theragnostics, with contributions from experts in nuclear medicine, radiopharmacy, medical physics, and radiochemistry. Each day of the programme focused on a specific area:
- Radioligands: principles, clinical use, and pharmaceutical aspects
- Radiopeptides: therapeutic nuclides, imaging challenges, and production
- Radioembolisation and Radioiodine: clinical applications, physics, and regional approaches
- Dosimetry and Radiobiology: dose effects, workflows, and treatment planning
In addition, a dedicated session highlighted developments in the Baltic region, with perspectives from Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. These contributions underscored the importance of regional collaboration in advancing theragnostic practices.
Building International Collaboration
Beyond the academic sessions, the programme also included opportunities for informal networking, enabling participants to strengthen professional ties and establish new collaborations.
Looking Forward
The COST RATIONALE Summer Theragnostic School 2024 was made possible thanks to the contributions of its speakers, the engagement of participants, and the support of the local hosts in Kaunas. The organisers express their gratitude to all involved and look forward to welcoming the community to the next edition.
